Jibber Jabber · 23 February 2013

Sometimes I wonder if anybody is out there reading. I hear the fading echo of “Hello” like in the Pink Floyd song, wondering if I am just typing and posting in the void with nobody else around. And I wonder who would notice if I just wrote a bunch of jibber jabber.

My friend Mike uses, “jibber jabber” all the time. He says these nonsensical words to mean any part of a conversation that is gibberish or incoherent or he uses the words where other people might use “yadda, yadda, yadda.” I thought of Mike jibber jabbering as I was thinking what to write about today. I thought that it might be fun to see who noticed if I just wrote a whole post about jibber jabber.

At first, I thought it might be fun to write a whole post of only jibber jabber jibber jabber. Just jibber jabber jibber jabber a couple hundred times. I would indent paragraphs, put in punctuation, and do the whole grammar bit, but I would have only those two words over and over again. Jibber jabber jibber jabber.

As I thought more about it though, I decided I could not do a whole piece just jibber jabbering away. Jibber jabber jibber jabber. So I thought maybe I would just put those words jibber jabber in random places jibber jabber throughout my post. That did not seem like the best jibber jabber idea either, so I thought I would just write about jibber jabber. Which of course, means that I wanted to write about nothing. Again.

I am sure Mike will say that I write about nothing all the time, but he might marvel that I could use jibber jabber more than a couple times in a blog post. (I know he is reading.) And yes, he is one of my real readers even if he sometimes thinks he is imaginary. Jibber jabber jibber jabber.

I am not sure why I wanted to just jibber jabber today. After all, I have plenty to write about. (I have plenty of dangling prepositions to leave at the end of sentences too.) But for some reason, I wondered who would notice if I just jibber jabber jibber jabbered.

Jibber jabber jibber jabber.

As I jibber jabber just a little more, I must admit that I did have one flickering thought of greatness. For one fleeting moment, I thought that I might one day be remembered for Jibber Jabber like Lewis Carroll is for Jabberwocky. Unfortunately, I have no idea how to “gyre and gimble in the wabe” anymore than I know how Alice survived her adventure or how I have written so much jibber jabber already.

As I jibber jabbered the whole way through a silly blog post, I heard the “Hello” echo fading and fading, and I wondered. As I typed and read and typed and read, I wondered a little more. And as I jibber jabber jibber jabber each week, I really do wonder. Is anybody is out there?
