Marvel at the Christmas Tree · 25 December 2025

I marvel at the Christmas tree
At what it means for you and me
For it is a sign of a terrible curse
From the book of Deuteronomy.
But forever now the curse does fall
On the One who took it all
Jesus fair, born Christmas day
He bore our sins; He bore them all.
He took them to the cross that day
And rose again that we might say,
“He is risen! He is risen!
Christ the Lord is risen today!”
But what has that to do with Christmas?
Is it not just a day of excess?
Where we all get presents galore?
What has the cross to do with Christmas?
Jesus’ cross and empty tomb
Are tied to Mary’s hallowed womb
For cross and tomb both show God’s power
And point us to Mary’s sacred womb.
For only looking back we see
That God’s great generosity
Was shown to us on Christmas day
Now we approach the Son so reverently.
And so the hallowed Christmas tree
Is tied to the cross of Calvary
We should approach our God on bended knee
As we marvel at the Christmas tree.
