Ideas Galore · 26 September 2026

Have you ever had a ton of ideas and not enough time to write them all? Yeah. Me neither. But when it does happen, it is both frustrating and amazing.
Writing is a creative endeavor. Or it is supposed to be. And as such there is a little inspiration and a lot of hard work. Or at least that is the way it is supposed to be. I love it when I have lots of inspiration and when I am working hard. And it seems that they tend to go hand in hand. Which is good. It means that the more I work, the more I am inspired. But having too much inspiration can be frustrating.
Having lots of inspiration is amazing, for sure. And what I mean by lots of inspiration is that I have lots of ideas. They are coming full speed ahead with nary a breath between them. Not that I have tons of blog post ideas, but sometimes. These days, I am usually having book ideas. Which is more fun anyway. (Sorry faithful readers. Both real and imaginary.) There is a problem with having too many ideas though. There is just not enough time to write them all. And even if there is enough time to write them all, there is not enough time to finish them all.
I am not gonna brag, but I have been in a zone where I have had lots of book ideas. (Did you like the tie in to a post I wrote a few weeks ago?) These book ideas do not come and go like they used to. They are stuck in my brain. And they are in a journal so they do not escape back to the idea ether. (An idea I shared a long time ago.) It is great and it is frustrating.
The thing with having so many ideas is, like I already said, tough to manage because there is only so much time in the day. And even if I was more than a part-time writer, there would still not be enough time in the day to write all the ideas that have been coming into my mind lately. Oh, they are not all new ideas, to be sure. But the ideas for new stories and fleshing out current stories and even how to edit older stories that I have not released yet come fast and furious. And I cannot deal with them all except to put some of them on back burners and hope that someday I will get the time to deal with them.

It is both frustrating and satisfying. Satisfying because I realize that the more I work, the more work I create for myself. And the more work I create for myself, the more inspired I become to work more and get more work. Frustrating because I keep giving myself more work that I cannot possibly do. Ah well. It is a nice predicament to be in. Too many ideas to get out in book form.
I love the challenge of being a part-time writer. To be sure, I am loving it less as time goes by. But I like the challenge of writing in small chunks in order to get something productive done. I used to barely be able to get a blog post done in a week. Okay. I got it done in a day, when I was only writing once a week. Still, it was a challenge to even write that much. But then, I started having more ideas and I needed to write more. So I started writing six days a week. (Gotta take that Sabbath.) And now, I wonder if I could get up earlier to write more. Or if I should write in the evenings when I am nearly spent. I know the answer, really. I just need to write until my fingers fall off every morning.
But seriously. I am just excited that I have so many ideas for books. I am less excited that I have not gotten out my next book and have neglected its polishing and final preparations. But I am glad that I have more ideas than I can handle right now.
I know I said in the beginning that having too many ideas and not enough time does not happen to me, but I am so glad that it does. Even though it is both amazing and frustrating.
