Mischief or Monster · 14 October 2012

My wife, The Mindboggling Mrs. Miyoshi, has created a monster. Actually, she has made a little mischief which she hopes will become a creation to help unify the neighborhood. Hopefully, it becomes a fun pastime rather than a monster.

Recently, The Mindboggling Mrs. Miyoshi and some of her friends from the neighborhood went out together for a meal. One of the topics they chatted about was a chicken somebody had found on her doorstep. It was old and losing feathers, and the years had not been good to it. The old decoration had lost its luster.

Naturally, that old chicken was sitting on the front porch when my wife got home.

Of course, The Mindboggling Mrs. Miyoshi decided to make a game of the chicken on the front porch. She decided that it would be a great idea to put it on somebody else’s porch. The kids thought it was an adult variation of “ding dong ditching.” Put the chicken on the doorstep, ring the doorbell, then run away. But my wife is more ingenious than that.

She figured there had to be some incentive in order to keep the gag running. There had to be a reason for one person to pass the chicken to the next. My wife’s answer was to put some creativity into the joke. She made a tie, vest, and nametag for that old chicken. And she had me write a poem for directions on how to keep it moving from coop to coop.

Remi

My name is Remi, I’m the neighborhood bird.
Remington Heights is my home, if you haven’t heard.
I go place to place, like an actual hobo.
It is a life that I love, but even so,
Have pity on me, I’m a poor little bird;
Please add to my wardrobe, nothing is absurd.
Then pass me along, I like roaming around,
Put me on a new doorstep, where I’m sure to be found.
Thanks for getting me out, of the cold and the breeze.
Thanks for letting me stay; thanks for the fond memories.

I am not sure whether Remi will make it from place to place getting a larger wardrobe as she goes along, but she has already moved on. And The Mindboggling Mrs. Miyoshi had some fun. She got to create a little outfit for an ugly chicken that needed some TLC.

Maybe one day, we will see that old chicken on somebody else’s doorstep with a new outfit and some luggage to carry all the other outfits people have made. Only time will tell. Time will also tell whether the mischief The Mindboggling Mrs. Miyoshi started will become a fun pastime for the neighborhood. Or if she just created a monster.
