My Blog Writes Itself · 15 October 2016

Sometimes, my blog just writes itself. Other times, it seems I have never put pen to paper or fingers to keyboard.

I have been blogging since 2006. Some weeks, I do not seem to have enough time to write all the ideas that I have. Other weeks, I struggle to get one word on the page. Actually, the words come, but I struggle to get any coherent thoughts on the page. It is not writer’s block (a mere myth). It is something else altogether. I just do not know what it is. I am probably just mental those days.

But the days when my blog writes itself, I just sit there and am amazed at what comes out. It is still word after word of utter nonsense. Drivel as one (maybe two) of my friends would say. But they just flow. My fingers fly over the keyboard as thoughts just keep flowing. It is the best feeling ever for a writer.

Until I read it again.

Sometimes after a session of writing with complete ease, I come back to said writing and see how poor it is. I wonder at the sentence structure, the organization of paragraphs, and of course, the story itself. I wonder at my own sanity. And I wonder if it really matters since it still seems I have more imaginary readers than real ones. (That will probably be as true when I hit one-thousand readers as when I had just two.)

Then again, sometimes I am happy at the drivel I produce. Word after word makes sense and at least amuses me. Not that amusing myself is what I am after. I really do want other people to read what I write. I just know that if I am not happy with what I write, others will not be either. Or they might love it.

I can count on one hand the number of times I have hated something but posted it anyway, and other people loved it. I do not remember which few those were, but I know it happened. I am not lying this time. (I hear The Mindboggling Mrs. Miyoshi saying, “Liar!” anyway.)

Regardless of whether my fingers fly or the words flow, I must write. It is part of my DNA. Part of the way I operate. Part of who God made me. And so come what may, I write. It is work when words do not come. But it is just so much fun when my blog (or other projects) just writes itself.
